A
video monitoring system may be installed to safeguard against
fraud and to enhance data security for toll operations. Each
lane is equipped with a video camera. All information captured
on video are displayed on a monitor located in a central control
console and are stored in a 24-hour time lapse recorder.
Each toll terminal is
networked to a central control system
located at the control room. When a vehicle approaches a
lane, the operator identifies its class and assigns a corresponding
numeric code. A character generator superimposes or overlays
the vehicle class keyed-in by the operator on the video
display for supervisor verification as the need arise. This
can be viewed on a monitor located at the central control
console.
All transactions are recorded
and stored at the central control system, which is composed
of three computers, namely :
Primary Computer
- provides main control
Back-up Computer
- always in "hot" standby and takes over when the primary
computer fails
Report Computer
- retrieves all data from the Primary and the Back up Computers
to generate statistical reports and operator summary. These
include information like the number of vehicles detected,
vehicle class count, total amount collected and operator's
log in and log out time.
For additional security,
when the network fails, the Micrologic toll terminals are
able to operate on a stand-alone mode. Each terminal has
a built-in disk drive for storing indivual transactions
and generating the operator summary report.
